While it often seems that Australia is a long way from everywhere else, Down Under’s geographic location is finally paying some significant dividends due to its relative proximity to the industrial areas of south China. Blessed with a continent-wide abundance of raw materials that its own limited population has no immediate use for, Australia now has a huge and eager market waiting at the end of a relatively short sea hop.
This represents a significant cost advantage for the Australian mining industry over that of other, more distant countries. Efficient sea transport also allows buyers to avoid the clogged and under-developed rail networks of continental Asia.

These factors naturally lead to tremendous expansion and modernization of the local mining industry. An additional plus for Australia is that it is a safe haven for nervous Chinese investors, who increasingly park their capital in projects necessary to their own industrial plans but distant from areas of increasing social turmoil on the Asiatic mainland.

We really apperciate Mr Mark Paton‘s contribution to our website.

The construction bubble that ended with the market crash of 2008 idled a lot of production capacity and left a huge supply of overbuilt units perched on top of a depressed market. Lately, however, it appears that this glut is getting close to being digested. Building permits are up. Many mothballed projects are finally getting completion financing. Population growth continues to add pressure for new home and business construction.
While it seems unlikely that the construction industry will resume its former frantic go-go pace, there does seem to be a gradual resumption of sustained activity nationwide.

Not all of the oversupply has been fully absorbed yet, but much of the remaining inventory is held in less desirable areas that are never likely to fully recover. The good stuff has been picked up and put back into service, and the time is now here to start building more.

The Best of Times For The Mining Industry

The looming arrival of 2.5 billion new consumers from the rapidly developing markets of India and China means that there is a rocketing demand for manufactured products of every type. Production of these goods, or even the factories to build them in, would not be possible without an equivalent boom in the mining industry.

Growing demand for ore to feed the new industrial base in Asia is only one part of the picture. Supplies get drained off from existing logistical supply chains to feed these new industries, which in turn leaves old industries searching for new supplies of raw materials as well.

In addition to this ratcheting up of mining activity in industrial metals, there is also an explosion taking place in the extraction of precious metals. Many ore bodies that were not exploitable at lower prices are now wildly profitable thanks to the run-up in precious metals. Because most of these activities take place far away from large urban areas, the boom is not registering on the popular consciousness, but it is most definitely taking place nevertheless.

Opportunity Still Knocks With Careers Within The Building Industry

For those who choose not to go to college, careers within the building industry still offer one of the best ways to climb the ladder of success in life. One of the reasons why this is true is that it is possible to enter the building industry as a helper in all sorts of different trades such as framer, plumber, electrician, roofer, drywaller, or painter.
As one works at the chosen trade, one gains education in the form of practical experience and capital in the form of accumulated tools and equipment. One also builds up a reputation for doing good work at an affordable price. With these factors in mind, it quickly becomes possible for a tradesman to start his own business.

This means that it is possible to go to work every day and do the exact same job as before, but get paid four or five times as much as one received in a weekly paycheck while working for someone else. Careers within the building industry all come with an inherent opportunity to get ahead in life, rather than simply work for someone else for the next forty years. On top of that, you usually get to buy yourself a really cool truck. Give the building trades a chance to make you rich.
